sustainable yoga brands

First & foremost, the clothing you already own is the most sustainable ;) However, if your yoga pants got some extra wear in 2020 and you're in need of some new leggings, I've got you covered with my favorite brands for yoga, working out, or just lounging about.

Patagonia: a certified B-corp and 1% for the planet company, Patagonia centers its actions to consider people, planet and profit. They have committed to be carbon neutral by 2025, are moving towards using 100% recycled materials, support Fair Trade practices, and meet all of their electricity needs with renewable energy from North America. While they started as a climbing gear company, they now have everything you need for outdoors activities as well as some of the softest sports bras.

Vuori: one of my favorite brands & what I've been living in since work from home became the new normal. Guided by the motto "happier on a healthier planet", Vuori has taken some major steps increase their sustainability. Committed to using 80% recycled materials by 2025, 50% of their products already come from sustainable materials. Vuori has partnered with Climate Neutral to offset their carbon footprint, is reducing plastics from their shipping and supply chain, and is committed to fair labor practices. Their joggers are the most buttery & my absolute favorite. I also love these leggings and this zip up.

Threads for Thought: aligned with their #threadlightly motto, Threads for Thought is committed to doing their part to help the planet. They have GOTS certified cotton, use recycled plastics bottles and fishing line in the ReActive line, and have majorly cut water use in their manufacturing process. Super transparent, they publish everything in their sustainability report. Their entire ReActive line is perfect for yoga.

Girlfriend Collective: I consider myself an OG Girlfriend Collective customer because I got a pair of their leggings when they first launched. Girlfriend Collective is committed to sustainability and transparency, and it shows. They have 100% recycled and recyclable packaging, their leggings are made from 25 post consumer plastic bottles, and they are SA8000 certified - providing safe working conditions and fair wages to their workers. Their high rise pocket legging and paloma bra make the cutest set.

Another great option is to look on Poshmark - secondhand is not only sustainable but also affordable. The app is super easy to search by brand, size, and style to find what you want.

Summary list of what to look for when buying sustainable activewear:

  1. What materials the company uses for their clothing (natural fibers, recycled materials, and non-toxic dyes)

  2. How they are making their product; what is the process or steps they are taking to reduce impact? (e.g. reduce water use, carbon offsets, made to order)

  3. How do they treat their workers? (e.g. Fair Trade or SA8000 certified, fair wages and safe working conditions)

It should be easy to find this information on their website. If it's not, you can always reach out to inquire.
